About IDPhotoSnap

IDPhotoSnap is a dedicated visa photo service for applicants across 100+ countries. It produces compliant photos for visa portals (DS-160, Schengen, UK ETA, Canada IRCC, India PSK), residence permits (Aufenthaltstitel, BRP, TIE, PR Card, Green Card), biometric national IDs, and 240+ other document formats. Free, browser-only, no upload, no signup, no watermark.

The site is purpose-built for the visa-applicant workflow, not a general passport photo utility re-marketed for visas. Primary audience: emerging-market applicants from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, plus all CIS, LATAM, MENA and Sub-Saharan markets applying to developed-country visas, the demographic underserved by paid incumbents.

Why We Built This

Getting a passport photo shouldn't cost $10. Most online services charge for the final download, show watermarks, or require you to create an account just to crop a photo.

We built IDPhotoSnap to be the tool we always wanted: free, instant, and respectful of your privacy. Your photo never leaves your device - all processing happens in your browser using the Canvas API.

How It Works

  1. Select your country or document type
  2. Upload your photo (JPG, PNG, or WEBP)
  3. Crop and adjust using the interactive tool - aspect ratio is locked automatically
  4. Download as a JPG file or a print-ready PDF with multiple photos per page

The downloaded photo meets the exact pixel dimensions and aspect ratio required for your country. Print it at home or at any photo lab.

Who Actually Uses This

Used from 95+ countries in the past 30 days (~1,600 sessions), most heavily by visa applicants outside the US and UK, not passport renewers in wealthy countries. That number comes straight from our own analytics, not a survey or an estimate, and it is small on purpose to state honestly rather than round up.

How We Verify Country Specs (and What We Got Wrong)

Every country/document spec is checked against government or embassy sources before it ships, but we still get things wrong sometimes, usually because a country's real requirement is close to the common pattern but not identical to it. When we find a mistake, we fix it and note it here rather than quietly editing the number:

  • 2026-09-08 - Philippine passport photo was defaulting to a blue background. The current DFA ePassport requires white; blue was for the older machine-readable passport. Fixed.
  • 2026-08-16 - Malaysia's head-crop ratio was set to the common 70-80% band. JIM's real spec is 50-60%, noticeably smaller. Fixed.
  • 2026-08-10 - UAE visa photo was wrongly using the passport's 40x60mm size. The visa is actually 43x55mm, a different, similarly-sized document. Fixed.
  • 2026-07-22 - India's passport head-crop was set to the common 70-80% band. Since ICAO enforcement tightened in September 2025, the real requirement is 80-85%. Fixed, along with head-ratio corrections for Canada, Turkey, and Hong Kong.

What This Tool Can't Do

No automatic tool, including this one, can guarantee your photo will be accepted - final judgment belongs to the office processing your application. Two specific cases where this tool cannot help at all, regardless of how compliant the photo looks:

  • Canada - the citizen passport and PR Card photo must come directly from a commercial photographer, taken in person. A self-taken photo is rejected no matter how precisely it matches the size and background rules. (Canada's separate visitor visa and study permit photos are unaffected.)
  • Germany - the Personalausweis and residence permit have required a certified photographer's direct transfer or an in-office terminal since May 1, 2025. Self-taken photos are not accepted. (Germany's visa photos are unaffected.)

This tool only crops to the correct size and replaces the background - it never edits your face, adds beautification, or uses AI to alter your appearance, which keeps it compliant with the growing number of countries banning AI-retouched photos in 2026.
