Frequently Asked Questions
What is the photo size for a UK Standard Visitor visa?
UK Standard Visitor visa photos are 35×45mm with a plain cream or light grey background. Same dimensions as UK passport. The UK is one of few countries that accepts both cream and light grey backgrounds — others require pure white.
Do I need a separate photo for the UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation)?
No separate photo file. The UK ETA app requires a live selfie taken through the official UK Home Office app, not a pre-prepared photo upload. However, you can use this tool first to verify your selfie meets the 35×45mm biometric spec (face position, neutral expression, no glasses, plain background) before opening the ETA app — failed ETA selfies require re-takes and can delay approval.
I am applying for a UK visa from India, Nigeria, or Pakistan — does this tool work?
Yes. UK visa photo specs are identical worldwide. Output is print-ready PDF for VFS Global biometric appointments (UK visa application centres in your country) or JPG for online uploads if required by your specific visa route.
Can I wear glasses?
No. HM Passport Office banned glasses in UK biometric photos since 2018 — no medical or religious exceptions. This applies to passport, visa, ETA selfie, and BRP photos.
What is the difference between UK passport and UK visa photo background?
Same 35×45mm dimensions. UK passport accepts cream or light grey background — UK is one of very few countries accepting non-white. UK visa accepts the same. UK ID/BRP card requires plain white. Pick the right document type when generating your photo.
How many photos do I need for a UK visa appointment at VFS Global?
UK Standard Visitor visa applications typically require 2 photos at the biometric appointment, plus a digital upload during online application. Our print-ready PDF lays out 6 photos per A4 — bring printed copies plus a digital JPG for the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) portal.
Is my photo uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
