Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a Canada visa photo?
Canada visitor visa (TRV), study permit, work permit, super visa, and initial PR application photos are 35×45 mm with plain white or light-coloured background, per IRCC. The same 35×45 mm format applies at all VFS Global Canada visa application centres worldwide.
Is the Canada visa photo different from the Canadian passport photo?
Yes. Canada visa applications use 35×45 mm. Canadian passport (for citizens) and PR Card use 50×70 mm. The two specs are different. Pick 35×45 mm if you are applying for a Canada visa or initial PR application; pick 50×70 mm only if you are a Canadian citizen renewing your passport or already-approved PR receiving the physical card.
I am applying for a Canada visa from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, or Vietnam — does this tool work?
Yes. The 35×45 mm IRCC visa spec is identical at every Canada visa application centre worldwide. Output is print-ready PDF for VFS Global biometric appointment + JPG for the IRCC online portal upload.
Can I use this photo for Express Entry PR application?
Yes. Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), family sponsorship, and other PR application categories all use the 35×45 mm visa photo spec at the application stage. NOTE: once your PR is approved, the actual PR Card production requires a separate 50×70 mm photo.
Can I wear glasses in a Canada visa photo?
No. IRCC prohibited glasses in Canadian biometric photos since 2016 for all document types — visa, passport, PR Card. Religious head covering is permitted as long as facial features (chin to forehead, both sides of face) are clearly visible.
How many photos do I need at the VFS Global Canada appointment?
IRCC requires 2 identical photos for visa applications. Bring 2 to the VFS Global biometric appointment plus a digital JPG upload via the IRCC online portal. Some PR application categories request 4 — our print-ready PDF lays out 6 photos per A4 sheet.
Is my photo uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
