Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a Germany Schengen visa photo?
German Schengen visa photos are 35×45mm biometric, with a plain light grey or white background. Per Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office), this spec applies at every German consulate worldwide — applicants from India, Nigeria, Vietnam, or any country submit the identical format.
Can I apply for a German Schengen visa with a photo I took at home?
Yes. German consulates accept self-taken photos as long as they meet the 35×45mm biometric format, light grey or white background, and the biometric rules (neutral expression, both eyes visible, no glasses, head centered, face 70-80% of frame). Our tool enforces all of this automatically.
Is the German Schengen visa photo different from a German passport photo?
The dimensions are identical (35×45mm biometric). However, since May 2025, German citizens cannot submit paper passport photos at all — they must use a Bürgeramt terminal. Visa applicants from other countries continue to submit standard 35×45mm photos to the German consulate.
Will my photo be rejected if I wear glasses?
Yes. Germany has banned glasses in biometric photos since 2017. Remove them before taking the photo.
How many photos does the German embassy need?
German consulates typically request 2 identical biometric photos for a Schengen visa application. Our print-ready PDF lays out 6 photos per A4 sheet — bring printed copies plus a digital JPG for online portals like VIDEX (Auswärtiges Amt visa portal).
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device. For biometric data, this matters.
