Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a UK Standard Visitor visa photo?
UK Standard Visitor visa photos are 35×45mm with a plain cream or light grey background per UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI). Same format applies at every UK visa application centre worldwide — VFS Global India, VFS Pakistan, VFS Nigeria, and others.
Who needs a UK Standard Visitor visa rather than an ETA?
As of 2026, citizens of around 85 countries need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA, £20 since 8 April 2026, no separate photo upload — full enforcement started 25 February 2026). Citizens of approximately 100 countries — including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Indonesia, Russia, China, Philippines, Vietnam, and most of Africa — still need a full Standard Visitor visa with a physical photo and biometric appointment at VFS Global.
Can I apply for a UK visa with a photo I took at home?
Yes. UKVI accepts self-taken photos as long as they meet the 35×45mm format, cream or light grey background, and biometric rules (neutral expression, both eyes visible, no glasses, head centered, face 70-80% of frame). The biometric appointment at VFS Global will accept your printed photo.
How many photos do I need for a UK visa appointment?
UK Standard Visitor visa applications typically require 2 photos at the VFS Global biometric appointment. Our print-ready PDF lays out 6 photos per A4 sheet — extra copies are useful in case of rejection or future application within 6 months.
Will my photo be rejected if I wear glasses?
Yes. The UK banned glasses in biometric photos since 2018 — no medical or religious exceptions. Remove them before taking the photo.
Is the UK Standard Visitor visa photo different from the UK passport photo?
No. Both use 35×45mm with plain cream or light grey background. UK is one of very few countries to accept non-white backgrounds. Different from UK BRP/ID card which requires plain white.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device. For biometric data this matters.
