Applying through Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)

Indian passport applications go through the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) network, not a walk-in counter. You upload your photo when you book the appointment slot online, and it becomes part of your application record, but PSK staff also capture a live photo during your in-person appointment, which is what actually goes on the printed passport. The photo you upload beforehand mainly needs to clear the online form and match how you look at the appointment, a photo that looks noticeably different from your real appearance is the more common cause of a hold-up than a minor size mismatch.

Since September 1, 2025, Indian missions and PSK have enforced a tighter ICAO framing rule than most other countries: your face must occupy 80 to 85% of the photo, not the 70-80% used elsewhere. Older guides (including some still circulating from before the change) will tell you 70-80% for India, that is now out of date. What photo size is required for Indian Voter ID?

For new voter registration via the National Voter Service Portal (voters.eci.gov.in) using Form 6, photos must be 35ร—45 mm with a plain white background. The Election Commission of India accepts JPEG up to 2 MB. Same dimensions as your Indian passport photo.

Can I use the same photo as my passport for Voter ID?

Yes. Both Indian passport and Voter ID (EPIC card) use the identical 35ร—45 mm portrait format with a plain white background. The Aadhaar card uses a different spec (no fixed dimensions, captured at enrolment centre).

How do I upload my photo to voters.eci.gov.in?

After filling Form 6 online at voters.eci.gov.in, you upload your photo in JPEG format under 2 MB. Our tool exports a portal-ready JPG plus a print-ready PDF (6 photos per A4) for the offline submission route at your local Booth Level Officer (BLO).

What is an EPIC card vs Voter ID?

EPIC stands for Electors Photo Identity Card โ€” the official name of the Indian Voter ID card issued by the Election Commission of India. The card itself is plastic, similar to a credit card, with your photo, signature, and EPIC number printed on it.

Can I apply for Voter ID online from outside India (NRI)?

NRI voters (Form 6A) can register with the Election Commission and use the same 35ร—45 mm photo spec. The portal also accepts overseas postal address proof. Same photo file works for both resident (Form 6) and NRI (Form 6A) registration.

Is the photo also needed for Voter ID correction or address change?

Form 8 (corrections, address transfer, replacement EPIC) typically does not require a new photo unless you specifically request a photo update. Form 6 (new registration) always requires a fresh photo.
