Frequently Asked Questions
What size is an NBI Clearance photo?
NBI Clearance photos are 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) with a plain white background. Required by the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation for clearance issuance and renewal, especially for OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) applying for employment, immigration, or visa purposes abroad.
I am an OFW abroad - do I need to bring my own NBI Clearance photo?
Yes. OFWs and Filipinos overseas applying for NBI Clearance through Philippine embassies and consulates must bring TWO printed 2×2 inch white-background photos taken within the last 3 months. The biometric capture at the appointment is in addition to these printed photos. This tool exports a print-ready PDF with both copies on a single sheet ready to print at any photo lab.
How recent must the NBI photo be?
Within the last 3 months. This is stricter than the 6-month rule for the Philippine passport - NBI rejects photos that look older than the applicant or do not reflect current appearance.
Can I wear glasses in the NBI Clearance photo?
No. Glasses are not accepted - the photo must clearly show both eyes without lens reflections or frames covering any part of the eye area. Remove eyeglasses for the photo.
Does NBI accept AI-edited or beautified photos?
No. NBI guidance explicitly rejects photos with filters, beauty modes, or blurred / low-quality results. IDPhotoSnap only crops the image and replaces the background with plain white - no skin smoothing, no relighting, no beautification - which keeps the photo within what NBI accepts.
Is the NBI Clearance photo the same as the Philippine passport photo?
No. The Philippine passport is 35×45 mm. The NBI Clearance uses the larger 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) format - the same size as a US passport photo. Bringing a 35×45 mm passport photo to your NBI appointment is a common reason for rejection.
Do I need to upload the NBI photo online?
For domestic NBI applications in the Philippines, biometric photo capture happens at the appointment itself, so no separate upload is required at registration. For OFW / overseas applications through Philippine embassies, two printed 2×2 photos are required at the appointment. Some embassies may also accept the photo digitally — check your specific consulate.
Is my photo uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your photo never reaches a server — verifiable in the browser DevTools Network tab.
