Frequently Asked Questions
What size is an Emirates ID photo?
Emirates ID photos are 35 mm wide by 40 mm tall with a plain white background. Required by the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) for issuance and renewal via icp.gov.ae and the ICP smart app.
Is the Emirates ID photo the same as a UAE passport photo?
No. Emirates ID uses 35×40 mm. UAE passport and visa photos use a larger 40×60 mm format. Submitting a 40×60 mm photo for an Emirates ID renewal is a common rejection cause.
Does ICP accept AI-edited or retouched photos?
No. ICP guidance states that photos modified by image-editing software will not be accepted. IDPhotoSnap only crops the image and replaces the background with the required plain white - no skin smoothing, no relighting, no beautification - which is the line ICP draws between standardisation and prohibited editing.
Can I wear a hijab in my Emirates ID photo?
Yes. A hijab is permitted as long as the face is fully visible from forehead to chin and both ears are not obscured in a way that hides identifying features. Other religious head coverings are accepted on the same condition.
I am a foreign worker in the UAE renewing my Emirates ID — does this tool work?
Yes. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Egyptian and other expat residents renewing Emirates ID through icp.gov.ae or the ICP smart app submit the same 35×40 mm white-background digital photo. This tool exports a JPG sized for the portal upload, in the browser, with no signup.
How recent must the photo be?
The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months and reflect your current appearance. ICP may reject photos that look significantly older than the applicant or do not match the live capture at the typing centre / service kiosk.
Is my photo uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your photo never reaches a server — verifiable in browser DevTools Network tab.
